Seems a bit slow with this release if you ask me. Vendors such as Alcatel Lucent have had the tech at that capacity ready and out in the field for ages!

1 month till i'm on fibre! Yay!

Although for an ADSL line it holds up well! I can't wait to move at the end of the month and put my NAS on a half decent upstream 20Mbps with 80Mbps down!





Heres a ping monitor of how the lines held up against heavy downloading all day and I reinstall Windows updates / Office and Steam games all day:

A great bit in there is that they know of one example where the customer was about 2000m from the green box (PCP) and getting 16 Mbps. If that's the distance to the PCP it makes you wonder what they would have got on ADSL2+ with the copper going all the way back to the exchange.  Probably barely anything if the downstream attenuation was above 70dB.

First official indications of Fibre on Demand pricing from Openreach

Thinkbroadband mentions wholesale prices for next year. Looks like the installation costs are going to be high which will deter a lot of people. Then again its understandable given the massive cost to rolling out infrastructure.

I can see fixed line providers looking to lock customers into lengthy contracts in order to cover any subsidising of the initial installation costs, which'll be look news for them given that 4G services are going to bring faster mobile data rates with lower latency causing increased competition..

Virgin Media’s updated Traffic Management policy

I'd be pretty annoyed at Virgin right about now, The no restriction policy is what made those premium costs half  decent value on their products.  To be honest they'd be better looking at improving functionality such as static IP's, reducing jitter & increasing the stability of the service.
